Why a Villa in Barbados is a Better Alternative to a Hotel for Christmas

The traditional “white Christmas” is fast becoming passé. As people are breaking out of the norm and traveling to far off places to spend their precious holiday, they are trading grey skies and cold weather for sunny clim  ates and sandy beaches.  If this sounds like you, read on!

The gorgeous Caribbean island of Barbados is the shining star among many, especially during the holiday season.

Why Christmas in Barbados?

The world is full of warm weather climates and tropical oasis, so what makes Barbados so special?  For starters, Barbadians love Christmas! It’s a big deal here and the islanders will be celebrating along with everyone else, with the traditional Christmas trees, amazing street lights, and no shortage of seasonal festivities.

If you are not quite finished with your Christmas shopping by the time you arrive, you are in luck. The shopping here is divine, and in Holetown you’ll find the most elegant boutiques offering the world’s best brands as well as many gorgeous independent boutiques. You won’t want to overlook the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre. With over 100 shops, restaurants, and cafés, they offer any type of gift you may be looking for, from clothes to children’s toys, to jewellery, watches and electronics, and more.  Then there are also the beautiful chattel shops in Holetown to explore for further clothing and gifts.

The Christmas feast is a staple for the people of Barbados. Epicurean delights aplenty can be had at many restaurants, and the traditional Christmas lunch is an absolute smorgasbord of ingredients that feature roast beef, lamb, turkey, chicken and Bajan fish and rice. A special pudding called Jug-Jug made with pigeon peas, salt meat, onions, corn, herbs, and minced pork is a uniquely Bajan dish you’ll likely encounter. It is topped with dark Barbadian rum and oh so delish. Afterward, the rum punches will continue to flow! As an alternative, a traditional British Christmas turkey dinner is offered at many restaurants.

Come Christmas morning, it is tradition for many people to gather at Queen’s Park in Bridgetown. The locals dress in their Sunday best and listen to the Royal Barbados Police Force Band, among other musical talent as they perform seasonal favorites. At the gardens of the Prime Minister’s residence at Ilaro Court, Carols by Candlelight is an annual event beloved by many. All over the island, you’ll find live music taking place outdoors and in centuries-old churches that offer the perfect yuletide setting. The oldest church on the island, St. James, has a wonderful midnight mass on Christmas Eve and is within walking distance to Queens Tower villa.

After the big day, if you feel you have celebrated a bit too much, you can destress and detox at any one of Holetown’s blissful spas for a good treatment. Their top-notch pampering centres all deliver first-class personal service in exquisite surroundings.

After Christmas, the celebrations don’t stop, because the New Year is coming! You’ll have plenty of opportunities to welcome in a fresh start, with many restaurants offering special New Year’s menus, complete with flowing champagne and spectacular fireworks.

Why a Villa vs. a Hotel?

A big decision to make is where you’ll stay during your luxurious Barbados holiday. You want everything to be perfect, and there are so many choices! Whether you plan an intimate or large family gathering, a reunion with friends, or something in between, renting a villa ticks all of the boxes for most vacationers during the holiday season.  Why?

Renting a villa affords you complete privacy. You’ll have the property to yourself, with personalised services and a dedicated staff to make your stay perfect. You’ll have space to spread out, your personal housekeeper will keep things in tip-top shape and including your laundry. Some villas even have the option of your own personal chef, butler and a dedicated concierge.

Your personal villa allows every one of your guests room to move, with their own space to retreat to. You can spend the holidays privately together as a group and take advantage of all of the high-end amenities that can come with a villa. Amenities such as movie rooms, game rooms, kitchen where you can choose to prepare meals together as a family (or have your chef to do it) are just a few examples of how you can create special memories together.

Compare this to staying at a sterile hotel with less character. Hotels offer much less privacy and where you’ll likely deal with different staff members each day. Imagine stepping out of your room in your robe on your way to the pool or spa and running into strangers all along the way? In a villa, if they have a private pool like Queens Tower, you are only sharing it your own group of friends or family.

In short, hotel amenities are not so personalised because you’ll have to share them with all of the other guests. And while hotels are good for solo travelers or couples who just want to hunker down in their rooms, villas are the ideal venue for a true holiday celebration.
